Product Description
Veterinary Prescription Drug
[Veterinary Drug Name]
Generic Name: Amoxicillin Soluble Powder
[Composition] Amoxicillin
[Character] This product is an almost white powder.
[Pharmacological Action]
Pharmacodynamics Amoxicillin is a β-lactam antibiotic with a broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Its antibacterial spectrum and activity are basically similar to those of ampicillin. It is slightly less active than penicillin against most Gram-positive bacteria and is sensitive to penicillinase, so it is ineffective against penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It has strong activity against Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Haemophilus spp., Brucella spp. and Pasteurella spp., but these bacteria readily develop resistance. It is not active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Due to better absorption than ampicillin in monogastric animals and higher plasma concentrations, it shows better efficacy against systemic infections. It is indicated for systemic infections of the respiratory system, urinary system, skin and soft tissues caused by susceptible bacteria.
Pharmacokinetics Amoxicillin is quite stable in gastric acid. After oral administration in monogastric animals, 74% - 92% is absorbed. Gastrointestinal contents affect the absorption rate but not the extent of absorption, allowing administration via medicated feed. At the same oral dose, serum concentrations of amoxicillin are 1.5–3 times higher than those of ampicillin.
[Drug Interactions]
(1) When used in combination with aminoglycosides, this product can increase the intracellular concentration of the latter, showing synergistic effects.
(2) Rapid bacteriostatic agents such as macrolides, tetracyclines and amphenicols interfere with the bactericidal action of this product. Concurrent use is not recommended.
[Indications]
β-lactam antibiotic. For the treatment of infections caused by amoxicillin-susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in chickens.
