Veterinary Non-Prescription Drug
[Veterinary Drug Name]
Generic Name: Toltrazuril Suspension
[Composition] Toltrazuril
[Character] This product is a white to slightly yellow suspension.
[Pharmacological Action]
This product is a triazinone broad-spectrum anticoccidial drug. Its mechanism of action is to interfere with nuclear division and mitochondria of coccidia, affect the respiratory and metabolic functions of the parasite, cause swelling of the endoplasmic reticulum and severe vacuolation in cells, thereby directly killing the developmental stages of the parasite (trophozoites, schizonts, and gametocytes). It does not affect the development of immunity.
In calves, the maximum plasma concentration is reached 120 hours after oral administration, with an elimination half-life of 154 hours. In piglets, the maximum plasma concentration is reached 48 hours after oral administration, with an elimination half-life of 148.2 hours.
[Indications]
For the prevention of coccidiosis in piglets and calves.
[Administration and Dosage]
Based on toltrazuril. For oral administration, single dose: calves, 15 mg per kg of body weight; piglets aged 3–5 days, 20 mg per kg of body weight.
[Adverse Reactions]
No adverse reactions have been observed when used as recommended.
[Precautions]
1. Do not use in animals allergic to toltrazuril or excipients.
2. Do not use in cattle weighing more than 80 kg or fattening calves.
3. Do not use in lactating dairy cows intended for human consumption.
4. Shake well before use.
5. When animals are treated simultaneously, their body weights must be accurately measured, and the dosage should be calculated based on the heaviest animal in the group.
6. It is recommended that all calves in the same pen be treated simultaneously; the best therapeutic effect is achieved when treatment is administered during the incubation period before the appearance of clinical symptoms.
7. Frequent and repeated use with any antiparasitic drug or antiprotozoal drug with the same active ingredient may lead to the development of drug resistance.
8. Calves with coccidiosis that have developed diarrhea should receive other symptomatic treatments; during disease outbreaks, the therapeutic effect may be limited in individual piglets due to damaged small intestines.
9. Due to the lack of compatibility studies, this product should not be used in combination with other veterinary drug preparations.
10. Keep this product out of the reach of children.
11. Personnel known to be allergic to toltrazuril or excipients should not administer this product; do not eat, drink, or smoke during administration; avoid skin and eye contact; if accidentally splashed on the skin or eyes, rinse immediately with water.
12. The main metabolite of toltrazuril is toltrazuril sulfone, which is stable (half-life > 1 year) and soluble in soil, and is toxic to plants. Feces from treated cattle and waste of this product must be diluted with 3 times their weight of feces from untreated cattle before being discharged into the soil.
